New (& Long Overdue) Car Stereo
After suffering through with my (very) old JVC CD player (which was pretty beat up and skipping CDs, no MP3 CD support, no iPod support, etc) in my almost equally old Mazda Protege, I finally decided to bite the bullet and get a new Alpine CDE-9874 car receiver. Needless to say, it is a relief to have a slightly updated stereo with some more bells and whistles.  |  |

You'll have to update us with what you think of this stereo after a little time. I would like to get an iPod ready stereo, because the FM transmitter I've been using just doesn't cut it. Unfortunately, VW uses non-standard sizes, making after market stereos look like they don't really fit in. By the way, I tried to click through to see the tech specs, and there's a typo in the URL (alphine.com) so I got a 404. So far, so good on this one. However, I am using the Aux Input on the front of the player. The main reason for this is that with 10,000+ songs on my iPod, the navigation with integrated iPod-ready systems has just been to clunky in the past. I have not tested the built-in navigation with this deck though -- iPod navigation works just fine for me.
Of course one drawback from using the Aux input is no default charging for the iPod (which most integrated solutions would have).

So how are you piping the ipod into it? a line in? or did you get the dock connector installed?

I am using the Aux input -- the navigation system on most of the integrated solutions is just too clunky (especially when you have 10,000+ songs). That being said, I haven't tried this one. The Aux input with the default iPod navigation works better for me.
