| jEdit is a nifty and fairly lightweight editor that I have been using for a little bit. It is written in Java and also has many plugins (for HTML, XML, XSL, PERL, etc). (of course, there is XEmacs -- which I primarily run on a Unix platform). For the more advanced IDE (Integrated Dev Env), there is Eclipse (which is free) and IDEA (which is not free). I haven't tried IDEA (although I have heard good things about it), but I am fairly happy with Eclipse. It was very trivial to get it running on both a Windows XP and Linux platform. Java & CVS support comes with it by default, but there are also plugins for Perl, as well as Coldfusion, just to name a few. |
