Ringtones for the iPhone
| According to MacNN, Apple will be offering ring tones for sale in the iTunes music store for iPhone owners. However, at Macworld, iToner might beat Apple to the punch for ringtones. Looking at the iToner site, it looks promising, especially since it seems that you can use any .mp3 or aac file.  Update (9/07/07): There are now several articles around the web now on how you can essentially transform any song you own (whether or not you purchased it from the iTunes Store) into a free ringtone for your iPhone via a pretty simple method (here and here). Note#2: Audacity works well for pulling out small snippets from your favorite song. |  |

Heroes: S1 Released
| At last!! Heroes: S1 has been released on DVD and of course, I was in line to plunk down my hard-earned, ahem, gift certificates. At least, I'll be able to free up some room on my DVR (I have about 6 unwatched episodes). Incidentally, Season 2 starts September 24th. |  |

Parallels 3.0 Beta Released
| Parallels Desktop 3.0 Beta has been released (and it is free upgrade to licensed users of Parallels Desktop 3). It looks like the main improvements were for Coherence mode as well as some performance improvements (possible to compete with VMWare Fusion?). For those interested, here is an more in-depth review at MacNN. Update (9/06/07): Finally got off my duff and installed this version of Parallels. Let's hope that it is a little bit more stable then the 4560 build. I must say that so far I do like the fact that minimized Parallels apps go to the dock as well. |  |

iPhone Unlocked (Really This Time)
| The current iPhone news making the rounds is that the company iPhoneSimFree.com has found a way to unlock the iPhone. It looks like you only lose the visual voicemail feature (an AT&T exclusive) if you use another carrier and you have to go through some additional steps to active the YouTube feature. Other than that, everything else works (Engadget tried it out with T-Mobile). Of course, now the speculation is, will Apple or AT&T try to block this latest uncovered hack? Update (8/26/07): Well, it seems that the answer to the above rhetorical question is "yes", according to this article. Update (9/03/07): In an interesting move, iPhoneSimFree.com, which is to being sales of it's software on September 4th, won't sell directly to consumers, only to resellers. Update (9/08/07): Yet more interesting news. According to Techomical, iPhoneSimFree.com, has been purchased by unnamed company for an unamed amount. Hmmmm.... Update (9/13/07): Yet more interesting news on the iPhone unlocking front. Evidently, the unofficial iPhone Dev team have managed to engineer a iPhone unlock called, appropriately enough iUnlock and are distributing it freely across the internet. And it seems that another programmer has developed a graphical interface to this program. | |

| The second iPhone update (1.0.2) has been released, which you can install via iTunes. Not a lot of info (from Apple or from around the web) on what is included in this update other than "bug fixes". Note: It seems that the update breaks your hacked iPhone and requires you to reset to factory defaults in order to get it going again. | |

iPhone - Finally Usable!
| After spending quite a few frustrating hours trying to get my iPhone activated (mainly due to the complicated factor that I was transferring a number from a business account), I am finally able to use my iPhone. My coworker also showed up to work with one, bringing the percentage of iPhone owners in our group to over 50%. Coming soon: customization and early reports on the iPhone. | |

Finally Caved In...
Well, it had to happen sooner or later. I finally caved in to the guilt/longing/?? and (with much forceful urging from my niece who seems to be the catalyst in all things Apple) plunked down my hard earned cash on a iPhone. (I did hold out for almost 2 months after the initial launch, which surprised even me  ). Of course, my iPhone has been nothing more than a glorified paperweight for the first couple of days due to the hassle of getting my (corporate) mobile phone number switched to my private account.  | |

Finally! Finished Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows
| Early this past Saturday morning, I finally finished the seventh Harry Potter book: The Deathly Hallows (of course, this was slowed somewhat by my re-reading of the sixth book: The Half-Blood Prince, but I am glad I did since there were some details that I had forgotten). I think that Rowling did a very good job of completing the story arc (complete with some surprises). It is hard to believe that this series covered a span of 10 years. It is difficult for me to say more and not give away some plot spoilers, so I'll just say that if you have been reading the other books, you'll definitely want to read this one as well. VMWare Fusion released
| VMWare has finally released VMWare Fusion, their competitor to Parallels for Mac. MacNN has a nice article with the VMWare Fusion product manager in which he compares VMWare Fusion to Parallels for Mac. One noticeable difference is that VMWare Fusion can support 64-bit Windows as well as supposedly support up to 8GB in a virtual machine. Another obvious plus is the ability to be able to run other VMWare created VM's on your MacBookPro. |  |

| Google Streets has added four more cities (San Diego, Los Angeles, Houston and Orlando), bringing it to a total of 9 cities covered so far. Unfortunately, my city still not among those included. |  |
